The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda [FMU], through Eastern Motor Club [EMC], took part in today’s National Cleaning Day in Soroti. The initiate was brought by Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.
Government has now made the last Saturday of every month a mandatory National Cleaning Day, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, as dedicated community cleanup time.
Why it matters
The initiative targets preventable diseases linked to poor sanitation, such as malaria and typhoid.
During the 3-hour window, citizens clean homes, markets, drainage channels, roads, schools, and health facilities.
To ensure compliance, the Uganda Police Force and other agencies are deployed on major roads. Non-essential movement and transport are restricted. Businesses and public operations pause, with exceptions only for emergency and security vehicles.
Motorsport lending a hand
FMU and EMC joined the effort in Soroti ahead of Round 4 of the KCB National Rally Championship. Marshals, officials and drivers were part of teams clearing drainage and public spaces around the rally HQ.
It adds to ongoing work by the motorsport community on environmental conservation. Groups like Women In Motorsport Uganda [WIM.UG] and corporate partners have run tree-planting drives along rally routes to combat environmental degradation during event weekends.
With the Soroti-Katakwi Rally ending today, FMU says linking motorsport to community service is part of building a cleaner, safer host region for fans and residents.
