FUFA has ushered a new trophy for its flagship competition, the Uganda Premier League. The launch comes just days before Vipers SC, the 2024/25 champions-elect, are set to be crowned this Saturday.
According to FUFA, the new trophy symbolizes the essence of Uganda’s natural beauty. Aptly named Margherita, the trophy draws inspiration from the country’s highest peak on Mt. Rwenzori.

“The design of the new FUFA Uganda Premier League trophy is rooted in a profound and symbolic concept that mirrors the country’s unmatched beautiful features,” reads a statement from FUFA’s official website.
“It reflects Uganda’s towering hills and majestic mountains, representing the fierce competition among top-tier football clubs striving to reach the summit of local football. That summit 5.11 kilometers above sea level symbolizes the ultimate achievement in the league, akin to Mt. Rwenzori’s Margherita Peak.”

The Margherita trophy represents the fierce competition among top-tier clubs striving to reach the summit of Ugandan football. This move follows years of public calls for a revamp of competition trophies across FUFA-organized tournaments. FUFA has already introduced new trophies for the FUFA TV Cup and the FUFA Women Super League, with more redesigns expected as the season concludes.
