A packed Uganda Premier League matchday served up everything from stubborn defences and missed chances to late drama, as four games kicked off simultaneously across the country on Friday.

At MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, NEC FC and Express FC cancelled each other out in a tense 0-0 draw. Express looked the sharper side for long spells, especially in the second half, creating the clearer chances, but poor finishing let them down.

Henry Wamala spurned a golden opportunity on the hour mark, while NEC relied on defensive discipline and tactical substitutions to survive the pressure.

Despite four minutes of added time, neither side found a breakthrough, with Khassim Hafizi named Man of the Match.

Over at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, URA FC and Police FC also shared the spoils in another goalless encounter. Police FC had the better chances, with Ikamba and Tezikya Lawrence missing several clear openings, while URA goalkeeper Matthias pulled off crucial saves to keep his side in the contest. The game was punctuated by injuries, bookings and multiple substitutions, but lacked the finishing touch at both ends as it ended 0-0.

At Maroons Stadium, Luzira, fans were treated to late drama as Maroons FC fought back to draw 1-1 with Mbarara City FC. The visitors struck immediately after the break through Marvin Busuulwa in the 46th minute, assisted by Abdul Malik Bironse, and looked in control for much of the second half. However, Maroons’ persistence paid off late on when substitute Abel Michael Eturude headed home an 86th-minute equaliser, rescuing a point for the Prison Warders. Busuulwa was deservedly named Man of the Match.

Kitara players celebrating

Meanwhile at Midigo Grounds, Kitara FC edged Calvary FC 1-0 to claim maximum points on the road. Crispus Asiki scored the decisive goal early in the third minute, finishing off a move set up by Patrick Kaddu. Calvary pressed hard for an equaliser, especially in the second half, but Kitara’s defence held firm. Murushid Juuko was outstanding at the back and earned the Man of the Match award.

Overall, it was a day dominated by defensive solidity, missed opportunities and narrow margins, as only three goals were scored across four Uganda Premier League fixtures
