The 2025/26 Kenya Premier League title race took a decisive turn on Sunday Gor Mahia asserted their dominance with a gritty 1-0 victory over arch-rivals AFC Leopards in a packed Mashemeji Derby at the Nyayo National Stadium.

In a match characterized by high tension and tactical discipline, it took 83 minutes for the deadlock to be broken. Midfield maestro Alpha Chris Onyango emerged as the hero of the day, slotting home a clinical second-half strike that sent the K’Ogalo faithful into a frenzy.

Despite a spirited performance from Ingwe, who pushed for an equalizer in the dying minutes, Gor Mahia’s defense held firm to secure all three points and bragging rights in Kenya’s biggest football fixture.

The victory sees Gor Mahia cement their position at the summit of the table. With 29 matches played, they now sit on 61 points, opening up a significant six-point lead over second-placed AFC Leopards (55 points).

With only a handful of games remaining in the season, Gor Mahia now looks like the clear favorites to represent Kenya in the CAF Champions League next season.

Sunday Round-Up: Stalemates at Kasarani and Gusii
While the spotlight was on Nyayo, other title contenders and relegation-threatened sides were in action across the country:

KCB FC 1-1 Kakamega Homeboyz: At the Kasarani Annex, the Bankers failed to close the gap on the top three after being held to a 1-1 draw by a resilient Kakamega Homeboyz. Homeboyz remains in the mix for a top-four finish, currently tied on 47 points with Shabana FC.

Sofapaka FC 0-0 APS Bomet: In a bottom-of-the-table scrap at Gusii Stadium, former champions Sofapaka FC played out a scoreless draw against APS Bomet. The result leaves Batoto ba Mungu rooted to the bottom of the table with only 18 points, facing a steep uphill battle to avoid relegation to the National Super League.

The league will continue next weekend with round 35.
