The construction of the Hoima City Stadium, a 20,000-seater multi-sports stadium, is nearing completion, with works currently standing at 92% complete. The stadium, situated in the heart of Hoima City, is set to be handed over to the government soon. State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang, recently inspected the stadium’s progress, accompanied by National Council of Sports (NCS) board chairman, Ambrose Tashobya, and Joseph Oluga, NCS’ Assistant General Secretary.

World-Class Facility

According to the project manager, Morat Altun, all construction works are complete, and the focus has shifted to beautification. The stadium boasts a range of impressive features, including a 95% complete roof installation, 92% complete lighting system installation, and 98% complete hybrid grass laying. The training support center and mini arena are 90% complete. Minister Ogwang was impressed with the stadium’s progress, describing it as “world-class.”

More Than a Stadium

The Hoima City Stadium is more than just a sports facility; it’s a game-changer and catalyst for Uganda’s social and economic development. The stadium features a range of amenities, including:

  • A main stadium with a mini arena and support training ground
  • A 2,000-seater multi-sport arena for sports like boxing, basketball, and volleyball
  • LED scoreboards, VIP and VVIP lounges, and a world-class restaurant and kitchen
  • A CCTV control center and Venue Operating Center (VOC) with 360-degree cameras
  • Medical units for spectators and athletes
  • Accessibility features for people with disabilities, including wheelchair elevators
  • External facilities, including volleyball and basketball courts, a swimming pool, and a boxing gym
  • Commercial space for rent and parking for over 970 vehicles

Early Completion

The contractor, Global Turkish Summa International Constructors, is set to complete the project in just 11 months, ahead of the scheduled 18 months. The stadium is poised to become a hub for sports, entertainment, and economic activity in the region.
