Hoima City Stadium, a state-of-the-art sports complex in Uganda, is set to be officially opened on Wednesday by President Yoweri Museveni. This modern stadium is one of the key projects for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which Uganda is co-hosting with Kenya and Tanzania.

The stadium boasts impressive facilities, including a 20,000-seat main arena, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, an indoor arena, outdoor courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball, and modern dressing rooms. The Turkish construction firm SUMMA completed the project in just 18 months, five months ahead of schedule, at a cost of approximately UGX 480 billion ($129 million).

Hoima City Stadium will not only host AFCON matches but also serve as a multi-purpose hub for community engagement, youth development, and sports tourism. It’s expected to boost the local economy, create jobs, and inspire young Ugandans to pursue sports and athletics.

The stadium’s completion is a significant milestone in Uganda’s sports infrastructure development, aligning with the country’s Vision 2040 and National Development Plan III goals. With its modern amenities and strategic location, Hoima City Stadium is poised to become a premier sports destination in East Africa.
