JINJA — The “Eastern Giants” are officially in search of a new commander. Following the sudden sacking of Abbey Bogere Kikomeko today, December 17, the corridors of BUL FC are buzzing with speculation. Kikomeko’s departure comes on the heels of a disastrous run that saw the Jinja-based side plummet to 12th in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) standings, a far cry from the title ambitions they held just months ago.
With the entire technical bench officially suspended, the club management is under immense pressure to find a replacement who can steer the ship away from the relegation scrap and back toward the top four.
Rora Media’s Michael Smith Mugote brings you the three frontrunners currently linked with the hottest seat in Jinja:

Alex Isabirye: The Prodigal Son Returns?
If you talk to the fans at the FUFA Technical Centre, one name stands above the rest: Alex Isabirye.
The “Rumor Mill” has Isabirye as the absolute number one candidate to replace Kikomeko. Isabirye, who has been attending some of Bul FC games recently, is the man who delivered the club’s first-ever major silverware—the 2022 Uganda Cup—and he understands the DNA of BUL FC better than anyone. Since leaving for Vipers SC and later Express FC, Isabirye has remained a favorite among the Eastern Giants’ faithful. His tactical discipline and ability to build a winning culture in Jinja make him the logical choice for a club in crisis.
Hussein Mbarangu: The Tactical Rebound
Coming in as a strong second is Hussein Mbarangu. Mbarangu is fresh on the market after a controversial exit from NEC FC last month. Despite his departure from Bugolobi, Mbarangu’s stock remains high; he led NEC to a stunning second-place finish and a Uganda Cup final in their debut top-flight season.

Sheck Mbarangu is known for his “no-nonsense” approach and tactical flexibility. For a BUL FC side that has lacked defensive shape in recent weeks, Mbarangu’s arrival could provide the stability needed to stop the bleeding.

Sam Ssimbwa: The High-Profile Wildcard
Another ambitious name on the list is undoubtedly Sam Ssimbwa. The immediate former Uganda Cranes Assistant Coach is a serial winner with a CV that commands respect across the continent.
The rumour mill suggests that BUL FC’s management might be willing to offer a deal that allows him to return to club football. Ssimbwa is a specialist in “fire-fighting” missions and turning average squads into title contenders.
Some BUL fans, however, think that if BUL FC wants to make a statement that they are still a “big club,” Ssimbwa should be the man to hire, while others points at Jackson ‘Mia Mia’ Mayanja
The Verdict
While Hussein Mbarangu and Sam Ssimbwa offer mouth-watering possibilities, the weight of expectation seems to be pulling Alex Isabirye back to Jinja.
The club needs a familiar face to calm the storm, and Isabirye has a proven track record of doing exactly that.
