New NEC FC head coach Badru Kaddu began his tenure with a hard-fought 1–1 draw against BUL FC in a lively Uganda Premier League encounter played under the lights at the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Saturday night.

In his first game in charge, Kaddu’s side showed promise and attacking intent early on, taking the lead in the 27th minute through Joseph Dhata, who calmly converted after Kavuma Mavin’s well-timed assist. The goal lifted the home crowd and gave NEC confidence after a cagey start.

But BUL, known for their resilience, found a way back just before halftime. Deep into stoppage time, Joram Kirya rose highest to nod home Hillary Onek’s cross, pulling the visitors level at 1–1 heading into the break.

The second half turned into a tactical battle as both sides made early substitutions in search of control. Kaddu introduced Paul Mucureezi and Patrick Bayiga, hoping to inject creativity and stability, while BUL brought on fresh legs to press higher.

BUL looked more threatening in the latter stages, dictating possession and tempo, but NEC’s defence — marshalled by a composed backline — held firm to secure a point for their new boss.

While Kaddu will be pleased with his team’s discipline and structure, he’ll know there’s more work ahead as NEC look to build momentum under his leadership.
