Ugandan club football makes its long-awaited return this Wednesday with a thrilling clash as KCCA FC and SC Villa lock horns in the FUFA Super 8 opener at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. The Kampala Derby, a historic rivalry, promises fireworks as fans finally get a taste of competitive club action after weeks of football drought.

KCCA’s co-head coach, Brian Ssenyondo, has assured supporters that the game will not only live up to its billing but also serve as a statement of intent ahead of the new campaign.

“It’s going to be an exciting match, one that fans will enjoy after being starved of club football,” Ssenyondo told the club media. “We are here to compete and win. This tournament provides a perfect platform to test our readiness before the season starts.”

Sharpened and Ready

The Kasasiro Boys have been fine-tuning their preparations for the past five weeks, blending training with the return of players from national team duty.

“Preseason has gone well. Of course, a few players were away with the national team, but we have maximised the time with those present,” Ssenyondo added. “The focus now is to carry that hard work into the Villa game and set the right tone for the season.”

The clash not only renews one of Uganda’s fiercest rivalries but also marks the first major test for both sides as they chase early bragging rights in the new campaign.
