Kasarani, Kenya – The race for the 2025/2026 Kenya Premier League (KPL) title intensified on Saturday after a tense 0-0 draw between two of the league’s heavyweights, Kenya Police FC and AFC Leopards, in what was billed as the “Betika Derby.”

The point salvaged from the deadlock at Kasarani Stadium proved highly significant for both clubs, immediately reshaping the top half of the KPL standings.

Police FC Reclaim Top Spot
For Kenya Police FC, the single point was enough to propel them back to the summit of the league table. The draw moves them to a total of 21 points from 11 games played (GP: 11), placing them just one point ahead of fierce rivals Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz, who are both tied on 20 points.

The defensive solidity of Police FC has been a key feature of their campaign, having conceded only 6 goals, the joint-best defensive record in the top three.

AFC Leopards Leapfrog Rivals
The zero-goal outing also paid dividends for AFC Leopards, who continued their steady climb up the standings.

The point earned sees them leapfrog Tusker FC (8th) and KCB FC (7th), securing the sixth position on the table with 18 points.

The Tightest Title Race
The KPL is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in recent history, with the top three teams separated by a single point and the top eight all within a four-point gap.

In an earlier fixture, Mara Sugar FC delivered a massive blow to the bottom of the table, defeating Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 at Awendo Stadium.

The vital victory saw Mara Sugar climb the standings. They moved from 14 points with 12 games played (GP: 12) to 17 points, putting them level with Tusker FC and KCB FC (both on 18 points).
For Kariobangi Sharks, the defeat was a setback in their battle against relegation, keeping them rooted to the 18th position with just 8 points from 12 games.

The thrilling conclusion to Matchday 13 sets the stage for a dramatic KPL season, with the battle for the top CAF Champions League spot and the fight against relegation proving fiercely contested.
