The 2024/25 betPawa Futsal Super League returned yesterday Friday evening with thrilling matches at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena. Six games were played, producing some shocking results.
Lubaga Grameen defeated defending champions Park FC to get maiden win of the season as they end 26 games unbeaten in the Futsal Super League.
Lubaga Grameen, who had been winless this season, were the side that ended Park’s invincibility. They came from behind to secure a stunning 5-3.
Park FC took an early 2-0 lead, with captain Shafiq Mulangira finding the back of the net, adding to Frank Ssebatta’s early own goal. However, the scores were level 2-2 at halftime, as Ssebatta redeemed himself by scoring in the other net, and Grameen’s captain Bruno Ssegirinya also got on target.
Immediately after the break, Andrew Kayanga put Grameen ahead for the first time in the game, but Park’s Abasi Muluya quickly levelled the score. With five minutes left, Nasser Semakula helped Grameen regain their lead, and Kintu Mansour sealed the win for Grameen two minutes before the final whistle.
With this shocking result, Park FC dropped to third position on the 12-team log with nine points garnered in their first four games. Meanwhile, Grameen moved up to eighth position with four points.
Away from Park, QC Mbarara’s worries continued as they once again failed to win a game this season. On Friday, they lost 5-3 to fellow entrants Kabuusu Clouds despite leading the game twice.
In the 4th minute, QC went ahead courtesy of Vincent Abigaba’s strike, but Tonny Ssemwogerere levelled matters for Cloud in the 10th minute. Idi Babu put QC back in the lead in the 15th minute, but by the break, the Mbarara-based side were down 3-2 after Samuel Mutebi and Ssemwogerere scored in quick succession for Cloud.
Early in the second half, Kenneth Majara levelled matters for QC, but Cloud proved too strong to handle in the later exchanges of the game. Najib Muwonge and Ssemwogerere scored to help their side secure victory.
QC Mbarara are now winless in their four games, with only two points garnered in their first matches, placing them third from the bottom on the log. Meanwhile, Kabuusu Clouds returned to winning ways after having lost their last two games.
Another shock on Friday saw Kisenyi FC surrender a two-goal halftime lead to lose 3-2 to Nansana ASKA. Ilyas Omran and Shafic Darir scored for Kisenyi before Isa Kisule scored a brace, adding to Jacob Opio’s early second-half strike, to secure a comeback victory for ASKA.
After their opening victory, Kisenyi has now lost three consecutive games, while ASKA returns to winning ways after having lost their last game.
Another side that returned to winning ways was Crown Lubiri, who defeated Edgars Youth Programmee 4-2 with Abukar Kulane and Mohammed Mohammed each scoring braces.
With Park’s loss, Kabowa Dream Team remains the only team with a 100 percent record, as they defeated Kabuusu Clouds 3-0. Mengo City, helped by Male Anthony’s hat-trick, also secured its second victory of the season by pummelling Kisugu FC 8-2.
With the shocking Matchday 4 results on Friday, the betPawa Futsal Super League will continue next week with the Matchday 5 games at Old Kampala Futsal Arena.
