The agreement also includes an option for a fourth year, pending performance. Umar is expected to report for duty next week as preparations for the new season intensify.
Umar arrives with a wealth of experience, holding a CAF A License and a strong portfolio of international coaching credentials. His coaching career spans both men’s and women’s football, including guiding Malakia SC to a second-place finish in the South Sudan Super League.
Notably, he led Yei Joint Stars to consecutive South Sudan Women’s League titles (2022/23 and 2023/24) and steered Superstar FC to multiple South Sudan Cup triumphs in Bor. He is also credited with developing several players who have broken into the South Sudan national team, especially from the West Nile region.
A former footballer himself, Umar blends tactical acumen with an eye for nurturing emerging talent. His understanding of the FUFA, CAF, and FIFA ecosystems, coupled with his background in business administration and procurement management, reinforces his all-around capability to lead a modern football setup.
Backing Umar will be a dynamic technical bench comprising; Mohammad Senfuma, first assistant coach, Simon Peter Ojok, second Assistant coach, Maxwell Okello, fitness & conditioning coach, Ken Rogers Tezigwa, goalkeeping coach and Stephen Ekidu, technical staff returnee.
Maroons FC believes Umar’s leadership and player-focused philosophy will align perfectly with the club’s ambition to rise in Ugandan football. The entire Maroons family extends a warm welcome to Coach Umar and his team as they embark on a new chapter of growth and success.
