Maroons FC delivered a disciplined and high-intensity performance to edge SC Villa 1-0 in a heated Uganda Premier League encounter at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira, a result that halted Villa’s charge for top spot.
An explosive start set the tone—Ivan Mayanja struck inside the opening minute, guiding home a precise cross from the lively Mujahid Ogama to give the hosts an early advantage.
The goal energized Maroons, who dictated the tempo through the right flank where Ogama repeatedly caused trouble, while defender Borris Onegi stood firm against Villa’s growing pressure.

The match took an ugly turn in the 39th minute when a scuffle broke out, culminating in straight red cards for Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale and SC Villa’s Geoffrey LubangaKene. Maroons introduced replacement keeper Matovu Hassan Muyomba, who later played a key role in preserving the narrow lead.
Villa dominated the second half, making multiple substitutions and pushing relentlessly for an equalizer. However, their efforts were repeatedly thwarted by Maroons’ compact defending and Muyomba’s timely interventions. The hosts also missed a good chance through Najib Yiga, who failed to bury a one-on-one opportunity.

Despite late pressure and four added minutes, Villa couldn’t find a breakthrough.
The defeat keeps Villa second on 17 points, level with Vipers table leaders, while Maroons climb to 8th place on 12 points after a gritty, hard-earned victory.
