She Cranes head coach Rashid Mubiru has unveiled a refreshed and re-energised squad for the 2025 Netball Africa Championships, signalling a bold new direction as Uganda heads to Malawi for the continental showpiece set for December 8–14.

Unlike the group that recently toured Scotland for the Celtic Cup, this selection carries a deliberate mix of returning experience and standout local-league performers. Veteran attacker Rachael Nanyonga rejoins the fold after missing the Scotland trip due to visa delays, bringing leadership and stability to the shooting circle.

Local league standout Norah Lunkuse has forced her way back into national contention, while rising star Sera Zam also earns a call after a strong domestic campaign. But the squad will march on without three players from the Celtic Cup team—Akello Malisera, Fildauce Namuleme and Shakirah Nassaka—who were omitted as Mubiru sharpened his tactical options.

The biggest absence, however, is Australia-based goal shooter Mary Nuba Cholhok, whose commitments with the Queensland Firebirds ruled her out of the continental tournament.

Uganda enters the tournament placed in Group A alongside neighbours Kenya, as well as Zimbabwe and Namibia—an opening phase that promises both rivalry and opportunity. Group B features hosts Malawi, South Africa, Botswana and Tanzania.

With a blend of seasoned returnees and hungry new inclusions, Mubiru believes this squad has the balance required to compete aggressively on Malawi’s courts.
