Nicholas Mwere has described joining Vipers SC as one of the proudest moments of his career after completing a two-year move to the reigning StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions.

The versatile 25-year-old defender arrives at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with BUL FC, becoming the Venoms’ latest signing ahead of a season that will see the club compete on multiple fronts.

“Joining Vipers SC is a proud moment in my career. This is a club with a winning culture, great ambitions and incredible supporters,” Mwere said after putting pen to paper.

“I am ready to work hard, learn from the technical team and give everything to help the club achieve its objectives. I can’t wait to get started.”

Capable of operating at centre-back as well as on both full-back positions, Mwere joins the league champions after establishing himself as one of the Uganda Premier League’s most dependable defenders during his three-year spell at BUL FC.

He made 69 league appearances for the Jinja-based side, earning widespread praise for his composure on the ball, positional awareness and defensive consistency. His impressive displays during the 2023/24 campaign saw him named in the Uganda Premier League Team of the Season, cementing his reputation among the country’s elite defenders.

Before his move to BUL, Mwere featured for Busoga United, where he began building a reputation as a reliable and versatile defender.

His steady rise has also earned him recognition at international level. Mwere represented the Uganda Cranes at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and previously turned out for the Sand Cranes, experiences that have further sharpened his game.

Vipers head coach Denis Lavagne believes the defender’s flexibility and experience will add valuable depth to his squad as the club prepares for another demanding campaign.

“Nicholas is a defender with great discipline, versatility and consistency. He can perform in different positions across the backline, which is extremely valuable over the course of a long season,” Lavagne said.

“His attitude, experience in the league and desire to improve make him an excellent addition to our squad.”

Fresh from reclaiming the Uganda Premier League title, Vipers are reinforcing their squad as they prepare to defend their domestic crown while also challenging for the Stanbic Uganda Cup, the CECAFA Kagame Cup and the CAF Champions League.

Mwere joins an already formidable defensive department that includes Enock Luyima and Derrick Ndahiro, with competition for places expected to be intense throughout the 2026/27 season.

His arrival follows the recent signings of Joel Sserunjogi and Jacques Mangoba, underlining the club’s determination to build a squad capable of sustaining success both at home and on the continent.
