Nanyonjo Angella has been handed the Captaincy to lead the Lady Rugby Cranes in the Africa Women’s 15s Division Tournament in Ivory coast
at the San Pedro Denise Stadium in Ivory coast from April 9th to 20th 2025.
Team captain Nanyonjo Angella will lead the squad, with a mix of experienced and debut players ready for the challenge.
The send-off ceremony took place on Monday, April 7th, at the National Council of Sports (NCS) offices, Cooper Chimney, in Lugogo, with a contingent of 28 players and five officials embarking on their mission and officiated by Mr Bernard Patrick GSNCS ,Ms
Sarah Cherangati, Assistant General Secretary of NCS – Technical, alongside Mr Godwin Kayangwe, President of
the Uganda Rugby Union.

Uganda will compete against Tunisia, Ivory Coast, and Zimbabwe in the round-robin format, with the top-
performing side securing promotion to the elite division of women’s rugby on the continent.
The 28-woman squad features a blend of seasoned campaigners and exciting young prospects. Yvonne Najjuma
and Peace Lekuru, both with 9 caps, are the most experienced players in the side and are expected to lead from
the front with their physicality and tactical nous.
Notably, four players who were part of Uganda’s inaugural U20 tour to South Africa in 2024 have been elevated
to the senior side, including; Bushira Namutebi, Peace Nemira, Mukyaala Proscovia, Phoebe Nakalembe.
Phiona Nantongo who was part of the U20 training squad, has also made the travelling team.
The team will depart for Ivory Coast on the morning of Tuesday, April 9, ahead of their opening match against
Tunisia.
