Kitara FC’s star forward, Denis Omedi has expressed his pride after his stunning rabona goal against KCCA FC in the FUFA Super 8 earned him a third-place finish in the FIFA Puskas Award and sixth place in the CAF Goal of the Year. He described the recognition as a significant milestone in his career, pushing him closer to the levels he has always aspired to achieve.

“I want to thank CAF and FIFA for recognizing the goal of the year, and I am deeply grateful to the fans who voted in Uganda, across Africa, and beyond. While it is not the result we had hoped for, this is a historic milestone that brings us closer to our dreams. Being on such a big stage is an honor we cannot take for granted,” Omedi remarked.

He remains optimistic about reaching even greater heights in the future, buoyed by this recognition of his exceptional talent.

Omedi also extended his gratitude to the Kitara administration, technical team, fellow players, former coach Brian Ssenyondo, FUFA, and the media for their crucial roles in his journey to this remarkable achievement. He credited their unwavering support for helping him reach the level he has attained so far.

Both Omedi and the Kitara management view this milestone as a stepping-stone for even greater success in the future. Kitara President Deo Kasozi also shared his thoughts on Omedi’s recognition, emphasizing the significance of his achievement.

“Having Omedi finish third in the FIFA and sixth in CAF awards shows the quality of his goal. Even though we fell short of winning, this has taught us the importance of mobilizing more votes in the future. As Kitara, we are proud that Omedi made it to this list at both the CAF and FIFA levels. This recognition has inspired us to continue scouting for more exceptional talent,” said Kasozi.

Omedi’s future with Kitara appears uncertain after returning to Uganda following trials with several European clubs. Kasozi acknowledged that the star striker is likely to move on, as interest from other teams continues to grow.
