Uganda Cranes forward Kabuye joins former Abdu Lumala’s paymasters

Uganda Cranes forward Calvin Kabuye has officially joined Swedish top-tier side Mjällby AIF. The 21-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.

Mjällby AIF, once acted as home for former Cranes, Pyramids and SC Vipers’ forward Abdu Lumala who was there in 2015 scoring 3 goals in 24 appearances.

Kabuye joins Mjällby from Superettan side Sandvikens IF, where he has been since the start of 2024. Kabuye who made 29 appearances, contributed 7 goals and 9 assists for Sandvikens. He has previously played for other Swedish clubs, including AIK, Vasalund IF, and Östersunds FK.

Mjällby AIF, competes Sweden’s top-tier football league, Allsvenskan where they finished 5th out of 16 teams over 30 matches.

His switch to Mjällby sees him join a growing list of Uganda Cranes players to have played in Allsvenskan like John Paul Dembe who plays as a striker for BK Häcken.

Kabuye was part Uganda Cranes’ successful 2025 AFCON qualification campaign having made his debut in the final qualifier against Congo Brazzaville, a match Uganda won 1-0.
