Owek Sserwanga officially opens the 2025 Bika Bya Baganda Netball Competitions Nnyonnyi Nnyange starts on a high

The Bika bya Baganda Netball Competitions 2025 edition has officially been threw on Saturday 26th April 2025 at the Mandela National stadium in Namboole with 20 clans that have been divided into four groups.

The official opening was graced by Owek Ssaalongo Robert Sserwanja, minister of youth, sports and arts, Sarah Nkonge Deputy Ebika bya Baganda, chairman in charge of Netball, Cotilda Nakate among others.

The defending champions, Nnyonnyi Nnyange clan had a perfect start as they beat Nsenene 52-8 after fulltime.

Ssaalongo Sserwanja stated that, “We are playing the 2025 edition in a gala format and we shall play today and tomorrow Sunday and we will have the final on 3rd May 2025 at Muteesa II Stadium in Wakulukuku. This time around we are having a lot of competitions higher than before, we are having over 300 netballers and expecting many scouts from Netball teams here to pick out who can play for them.”

“This platform offers platform to all Netballers to came and showcase their talents and also in unique way we are having players from sub county competitions, Schools competitions all of them climaxing at the Bika tournament. We expected good day as we celebrate 70 years of Kabaka’s birthday, we thank the clans leaders, team officials, media, our Sponsors for such wonderful opportunity to show case Netball competitions.” Sserwanja added.

Deputy Chairman in charge of Netball, Dr. Sarah Nkonge revealed that they are expecting competitive Netball in this edition.

“I am grateful to see young generation playing Bika netball, I thank all the twenty clans that participated in this year competitions and this is part of the avenues She Cranes and clubs get players and even giving chance to girls to showcase their talents.”

Ngeye beat Musu 48-19 while Ngoonge defeated Lugave 27-18. In another game that was enjoyed Njovu clan defeated Omutima Omasagi 27-21 in an epic encounter while Mamba Namakaka outclass Mbwa 36-21.

The games will resume tomorrow on Sunday at the same venue, Mandela National stadium and are expected to climax on 3rd May 2025 at Muteesa II Stadium in Wakulukuku .
