Police Seek Validation as NEC Chase First Win in Lugogo Duel

Police FC’s return to topflight football has been marked by resilience and renewed ambition — but their real test of intent arrives this Saturday when they lock horns with NEC FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

After collecting four points from their opening two fixtures, the 2005 league champions have shown flashes of promise under coach Matia Lule, yet questions remain about their ability to sustain form against seasoned Premier League sides.

Both of the Cops’ positive results — a hard-fought draw against Mbarara City and a narrow win over Express — came on home turf, giving their early campaign a comfortable cushion. Now, they must translate that confidence into consistency against a side known for grit and defensive discipline.

NEC, meanwhile, arrive with unfinished business. Their 1–1 draw with URA FC last week felt more like a missed opportunity than a point gained — especially after squandering a first-half lead. Coach Ronald Mukasa’s men are desperate to convert performance into results and notch their maiden victory of the season.

Recent history tilts slightly in NEC’s favour. The Bugolobi-based side are unbeaten in their last three encounters with Police across all competitions, including a Uganda Cup victory and two league stalemates last term. That record gives them a psychological edge heading into the weekend’s only fixture.

For Police, however, Saturday’s clash is about more than just points. It’s a chance to show that their solid start was no coincidence — and that their revival has substance behind the early-season sparkle.

The match will wrap up Round Three of the first round, setting the tone for what promises to be an intriguing battle between an NEC side chasing momentum and a Police team eager to reclaim its identity among Uganda’s football elite.
