PUSH Cricket Academy got off to a flying start in the 2025 Obuya Tournament, thrashing Obuya Cricket Academy by 128 runs in the opening match. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, PUSH posted an imposing total of 222 runs.

Solid Foundation

Openers Hamidu Munyigwa (43) and Julius Okema (40) laid a solid foundation with aggressive stroke play, powering PUSH to 27/0 after just two overs and 62/0 at the end of the Powerplay. Although Munyigwa was dismissed in the 7th over, PUSH continued to dominate, reaching the 100-run mark in the 10th over thanks to a quickfire 13 from Gururaj Shekaraju.

Strong Finish

Skipper Edward Mugwanya added a valuable 34 runs later in the innings, while deputy Kasimu Adam contributed 12. PUSH stood at a strong 156/3 after 15 overs. Extras also played a part, adding 24 runs to the total. The 200 mark was reached on the final ball of the 19th over.

Disciplined Bowling

In response, Obuya Cricket Academy struggled against a disciplined and sharp PUSH bowling unit, managing only 94 runs before being bowled out. Julius Okema starred with the ball, taking two wickets and maintaining pressure throughout.

Post-Match Insights

PUSH captain Edward Mugwanya praised his team for a complete performance. “This win gives us great momentum heading into tomorrow’s game. We aim to win all our group matches, top the table, and make it to the finals. Our goal is to lift the trophy and take it home to Uganda.”

Obuya’s captain Arhan Shah admitted his side was outplayed, especially in the first innings. “We dropped too many catches and had too many misfields. That cost us dearly. But we still have two games left. If we can regroup, we’re hoping Uganda slips up, and we’ll try to bounce back.”

PUSH returns to action tomorrow afternoon against Lenana School, looking to maintain their winning form.
