Rally Argentina, a beloved fixture of the World Rally Championship until its last running in 2019, is actively working towards a return to the calendar. Organizers are targeting a candidate event in 2026, with the aim of securing a full WRC slot by 2027. The rally would once again be based in its traditional home of Cordoba Province, a region known for its strong local funding and passionate fan base since 1985.

While organizers are confident, WRC Promoter indicates that no agreement is yet in place for either a candidate or full WRC event. The primary hurdle isn’t financial, but calendar logistics. Rally Argentina requires a March/April slot to avoid the region’s forest-fire season, a challenge given that current South American rounds in Chile and Paraguay occupy September.

The WRC calendar is set for significant changes in 2027, with a new American round also on the horizon and Scotland confirmed. Paraguay holds a three-year deal concluding in 2027, while Chile’s agreement is understood to end this season.

Rally Argentina organizer David Eli remains optimistic, stating, “We’re going to have Rally in 2027,” contingent on a reshuffling of the South American dates. If successful, fans can anticipate the return of classic stages like El Condor and Mina Clavero.

Although no official announcement has been made, DirtFish sources confirm that efforts are well underway to bring world rallying back to one of its most iconic locations. An Argentinian media source added, “It’s close. We know the preparation (candidate) event is coming, the work is starting. We have seen officials out in the roads and looking – some of the locals are talking about what they’re seeing. Like you can understand, there’s a lot of excitement – as a country, we have missed the WRC.” The expectation is that, following a successful candidate round, Rally Argentina would return to Córdoba Province, likely with significant local funding.
