The Badminton Uganda (BU) has concluded a two-day Shuttle Time Phase 2 workshop aimed at promoting the sport at the grassroots level in Ngora District. The training, held at Ngora High School from March 28–30, 2026, attracted 15 sports teachers from various schools across the district.
The workshop was part of Uganda badminton’s ongoing efforts to expand badminton beyond urban centers and empower teachers with the knowledge and tools to introduce the sport to young learners. Participants were taken through both indoor and outdoor badminton techniques, safety measures, and methods of integrating the game into school program.

UBA Chief Executive Officer Simon Mugabi emphasized the importance of such initiatives in ensuring the Association complies with the new national sports directive that requires federations to reach at least 75% of districts across the country and want to see that the sport develops from the grass root.

” This program is vital because it helps us take badminton closer to the communities and schools, teaching technical officials that will be officiating the sport and young badminton players get achance to play and learn the game,” .
Mugabi added “Different people who have attended this workshop say that they have learnt a lot of skills and are now ready to start the sport in their different schools”.

Last year Badminton Uganda in its 1st phase of Shuttle time, covered 5 districts like; Pader district, Iganga, Kayunga, Rwampara, and Nakaseke district with over 120 teachers from 120 schools getting badminton skills.
With continued efforts to engage more schools and communities, Badminton Uganda is on a path to expand the reach and visibility of badminton across the country, tomorrow Badminton Uganda will be in Kumi district.
