Uganda Premier League Today, 4pm
UPDF v Mbarara City
Desperation will define Thursday’s clash at Bombo Military Grounds as UPDF FC and Mbarara City FC square off in a contest neither side can afford to lose.
With the season entering its decisive stretch, both teams are hovering dangerously close to the drop zone in the Uganda Premier League. UPDF are in deeper trouble, stuck in the relegation places after a miserable run that has yielded just a single victory in their last 15 outings.
The army side have not tasted victory since edging Lugazi in early December and arrive for the encounter carrying a 12-match winless streak. Anything short of three points could leave their survival hopes hanging by a thread.

Mbarara City are hardly in a more comfortable position. The Ankole Lions sit only two points above their hosts and have also struggled badly, collecting just one victory from their last 10 matches. A poor run of defeats has dragged them into the survival battle, making the trip to Bombo a crucial opportunity to create breathing space.
History, however, favours UPDF. The soldiers have dominated recent meetings between the two sides, avoiding defeat in their last nine league encounters. During that run, they have picked up seven wins and only suffered one loss, a record that could provide a psychological edge heading into the fixture.
The previous meeting also went UPDF’s way, as they secured a narrow victory despite finishing the match with 10 men after a late red card.
With both teams struggling for form and confidence, Thursday’s meeting is likely to be tense, physical and decided by the side that handles the pressure better.
