Fighting to avoid the drop, the Rounders earned a gritty 19-run win over Tornado Bees in the men’s 50 over cricket league at Lugogo, boosting their hopes of survival in the league.
Batting first, the Rounders struggled to build momentum but managed to reach 104 before being bowled out in 35 overs. Zulu Walaza’s patient 33 anchored the innings, while skipper Brian Masaba added a crucial 30. Wabwose chipped in with 12.
The Bees had done well with the ball—Jonathan Ssebanja and Munir Ismail shared six wickets between them—but couldn’t replicate that dominance with the bat. Ssebanja again led the charge with 33 runs and Nicholas Kebba followed with 19, but the rest of the order faltered.
The Rounders’ bowlers stepped up when it mattered most. Tembo Zubair tore through the middle order with figures of 4/25, while David Mwesigwa took 3/22 to help seal the victory as the Bees fell short in their chase.
The result sees the Rounders leapfrog the Bees into fourth place on 10 points, though the Bees still have three games in hand and sit just one point behind. At the bottom, Wanderers and Avengers continue to struggle, with time running out to save their season.
