SC Villa’s brief association with Serbian tactician Nemanja Milincic has come to an unexpected end before the ink could hit the paper.

Just days after the club unveiled Milincic as their next head coach, replacing Morley Byekwaso, the 17-time Uganda Premier League champions have officially called off the appointment. In a statement released by Club President Omar Mandela, Villa announced that advanced negotiations with the Serbian had been discontinued by mutual consent.

“While there had been an agreement in principle and preliminary work had begun, unforeseen issues that conflicted with the club’s core values arose,” the statement read in part. “After thoughtful discussion, both the club and Mr. Milincic agreed that it would be best not to proceed with a formal engagement.”

SC Villa emphasized that despite initial excitement around the appointment, they remain committed to building a strong foundation with a coach who aligns with the long-term vision of the club. The Jogoos also extended their gratitude to Milincic for his interest in the job.

Club President Omar Mandela took full responsibility for the decision to halt the process, reaffirming the club’s commitment to securing the right fit for the technical bench.

The coaching search is now back on as Villa looks to rebound from a disappointing 2024/25 season, where they finished sixth in the league standings with 45 points — a distant 24 points behind champions Vipers SC.

With fans eager to see a strong response ahead of the new season, the spotlight remains firmly on Villa’s next move in the dugout.
