Uganda Premier League powerhouse SC Villa has ushered in a new chapter with the appointment of veteran coach Moses Basena as the club’s new Technical Director. The announcement was made official on Monday, marking Basena’s return to a familiar environment.
A former player and past servant of the Jogoos, Basena reunites with the 17-time Ugandan champions in a strategic role aimed at boosting the technical direction of the club. His coaching journey has seen him lead teams such as Rwanda’s Sunrise FC, URA FC, Simba SC, KCCA FC, UPDF FC, and Tanzania’s Ihefu SC. He also served as Uganda Cranes assistant coach during Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s tenure.
SC Villa’s technical bench has also seen additional adjustments. Former international goalkeeper Sam Kawalya has been brought in as the new goalkeeping coach, taking over from Yusuf Ssenyonjo. Another familiar face, Dan Mubiru himself a former Villa player has been appointed as team manager, while Hakim Ssenkumba will steer the club’s youth development as head of the junior team.
The coaching shake-up comes under the watch of current head coach Zeljko Kovacevic, who took charge following Morley Byekwaso’s departure after a lackluster 2024/25 season.
These changes signal SC Villa’s intent to revamp their structures as they chase a return to domestic dominance.
