SC Villa delivered a ruthless attacking display to demolish Mbarara City 6-1 in a one-sided Uganda Premier League encounter, tightening their grip on the title race with a commanding home victory.

Villa wasted no time asserting dominance. Just six minutes in, Frank Ssebuufu rose highest at a corner kick to open the scoring, with Hassan Mubiru supplying the delivery. The hosts smelled blood immediately, and four minutes later, defensive confusion at the back gifted Villa a second as Ssebuufu turned provider, setting up Mubiru to double the advantage.

Mbarara City struggled to cope with Villa’s intensity and movement, repeatedly losing possession under pressure. Their misery deepened on the half-hour mark when Tonny Ankunda pounced on a rebound after Mubiru’s free kick struck the post, making it 3-0. Five minutes later, Aslam Ssemakula finished off another sweeping move, heading in Mubiru’s cross to complete a devastating first half.

The second half followed the same script. Najib Yiga extended Villa’s lead five minutes after the restart, calmly finishing from close range after a neat assist from Ssemakula. Moments later, Mubiru capped off a standout performance by capitalising on a loose ball to score Villa’s sixth.
With the contest long settled, Villa rang the changes and eased off the tempo.

Mubiru was named man of the match.

Mbarara City grabbed a late consolation when Clinton Kamugisha converted a penalty after Wycliff Ahumuza was brought down in the area, but it did little to mask an otherwise torrid evening for the visitors.

The emphatic win lifts SC Villa to third on the table with 29 points, sitting one point behind leaders Vipers SC and four ahead of KCCA FC. For Mbarara City, the defeat leaves them second from bottom on 11 points, deepening their relegation concerns as the season progresses.
