The 2nd edition of TECH for the World Chess Championships has officially kicked off today at the Sports Outreach Ministry Resource Center in Kiwawu, Mityana district.
Over 158 talented young minds participated in this year’s edition from different the SOM Inter Project Chess Academy centers countrywide including Bwaise, Kibuli, Katwe, Kampala, Gulu, Jinja, Kagadi, Masaka, Hoima and Budaka embarked on a life-changing journey.
The TECH for the World Chess Championship is organized by SOM Chess Academy is only primary and secondary students are allowed to take part in it.
The three days tournament will run from today upto Friday with TECH for the world head, Eng. Carol Lisse who is currently in America, expected to grace the climax of the championship.
The Tech world annual championship is funded by Eng Carol Lisse, who is an Engineer in Microsoft and will give away twelve scholarship during championship.
Juicy cash prizes are on stake for the top performers in all categories with the winner walking away with certificates, medals with several trophies while the grand prize of one year Scholarship for the winner from each section.

Robert Katende, the academy founder and CEO says this program will be running every year with the focus of seeing players get a chance to go to school.
”The number of participants of this edition would have been higher but due to lack of transport, many players from our centers were left out,” Katende told Rora Media Sports.
This championship is for only SOM Chess Academy players but an open event for all will be organized in April where other players will also stand a chance to get scholarships.
Among the players who are in the race for the scholarship, is the Nsubunga Maria Gift who is aiming at being among the winners.
