The 8th edition of the East African Badminton Challenge has officially been launched this Thursday evening at the City tyres head offices in industrial area along 6th Street in Kampala .

The launch ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Mr. Feng Wang -President of Linglong Group,Hajji Omar-Chairman of Mandela Group,Mr.Mohamed Vaheed,Treasurer of the Indian Association & Chairman of the Indian Sports Forum,Mr. Ammethutheen Kathiri , Chairman of Tamil Sangam Uganda, Mr. Saleem Yemmes , Chairman of Ugasewa, Mr. Simon Mugabi, CEO of Uganda Badminton Association and Mr. Venkatesh Kumar, CEO of Mandela Group .

The prestigious 2025 City Tyres East Africa Badminton Challenge sponsored by the Linglong Tyres and organized by the Mandela group of companies in conjunction with the Uganda badminton association and Indian Association Uganda.

Over 1500 participants from from different parts of the globe include Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, Burundi, and South Sudan among others who will be vying for several prizes.The action will shuttle off on 16th October and climax on 19th at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala .

Participants will be showcasing their talent and skill in the wide range of categories include Schools (U-10, U-13, U-15, U-19)
Doubles (Boys’ Doubles, Girls’ Doubles, Mixed Doubles) University teams and Corporate teams ,Foreigners living in Uganda ,Veterans and, Professionals
Nations Category .

Mandela Group of Companies own City Oil, City Tyres, Café Javas, Mandela Millers, CJ’s, Mandela AutoSpares, City Retread and The Food Hub and has been supporting youth development through sports.

In media brief with Rora media sports the Mandela group of companies chairman Hajji Omar Mandela stated.

“We are excitement to officially unveiled this year East Africa city tyres badminton tournament and reaffirming our commitment to promoting sports, strengthening regional ties and inspiring the next generation of badminton players across East Africa “.

This tournament is part of Mandela Group’s CSR initiative, aimed at developing youth through sports in East Africa. We believe that engaging young people in sports not only fosters talent but also promotes teamwork, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle.

In media conversation with the Uganda Badminton Association CEO Simon Mugabi emphasized the importance of this tournament .

“This competition portrays the future of badminton in the country and through the support of City Tyres, Uganda is number one on Africa “.

“We want to make sure Badminton grows. This competition is going to give many players a lot of exposure.”

“This is one of the special events in Uganda Badminton, it is always brings a lot of participants at youth, Adults and Co-operates competing in team and Individual events”

“Following the launch, Registration switched to being done online registration being brought in the contention.”

“With this launch the registration has immediately started with a provision of scanning our QR code to register.”
