With just days remaining until the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 kicks off in Morocco, Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has officially named the squad tasked with ending the nation’s 2019-long wait for continental glory.
The Cranes have been drawn into a formidable Group C alongside three-time champions Nigeria, regional rivals Tanzania, and Tunisia.
The tournament will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Experience Meets Youth: The Onyango Factor
The biggest headline remains the inclusion of veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango. The Mamelodi Sundowns star brings invaluable leadership to a group that includes emerging prospects like 17-year-old James Bogere, who earned his senior call-up following standout performances at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The “Nigerian Secret Weapon”
All eyes are on Uchechukwu Ikpeazu, the 30-year-old St. Johnstone forward. Born in London to a Nigerian father and Ugandan mother, the powerful striker chose to represent the Cranes and will face his father’s homeland, Nigeria, in what is set to be one of the most anticipated group-stage matchups.
