The Parliament of Uganda has today resolved that the Parliamentary Commission will be paying school fees for two young Motorsport riders up to Senior 6 as a sign of appreciation for the good work they did in raising the Uganda flag during the recently concluded African Championship.

Ramathan Mubiru a candidate at Tahwid International School, Kisenyi and Helena Birungi, a primary four pupil at Rainbow Christian School, Entebbe, are the blessed riders.
The riders were part of the MX Cranes team that won silver in the 2024 Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN) championship that took place in Marrakech, Morocco in October.

The MX Cranes, today led by veteran class rider and a Member of Parliament, Hon. James Micheal Jimmy Akena, presented the trophy it won on 479 points just 107 points below gold medal winners, South Africa.

Birungi won the MX50cc ladies’ class which helped Uganda finish second overall in the class below South Africa. For Mubiru, he was third in the MX65cc class thus collecting more points to help Uganda win the overall class ahead of South Africa.

In other podium places got in Morocco, dedicated captain, Stav Orland, showcased remarkable talent throughout the event defending his MX2 title, thus securing crucial points for the team. He was joined by Fortune Emmanuel Ssentamu who finished third in MX1 class thus solidifying Uganda’s strong position.

Edison Birungi a rider parent to Birungi said, “I thank Parliament for this. Helena really did deserve it because she put in a lot of training before going to Morocco where she was first in MX50cc.”
Government Chief Whip and former minister of sports Hon. Hamson Obua says, “Government is committed to financing sports activities, which is seen in the rising trophies the country is receiving across the world. Any financing challenges will be comprehensively addressed.”
