Two wounded sides with something to prove will face off this afternoon at the Yes Sports Arena in Nsambya, as Uganda Christian University (UCU) visit King Ceasor University in a crucial Pepsi University Football League encounter.

For UCU, the mission is simple restore pride. The Mukono outfit, twice finalists and champions in 2019, were left reeling after a shock 1-0 home defeat to Ndejje University on opening day, a result that sent early tremors through their campaign. The loss, sealed by Humphrey Musinguzi’s early strike, exposed cracks in a team long regarded as one of the competition’s most disciplined sides.

This time, assistant coach Christian Magoba takes charge on the touchline, with head coach Jimmy Kintu occupied with Uganda Premier League duties at Calvary FC. Magoba insists his side has learned from their mistakes and is ready to reignite their season.

Their opponents, King Ceasor University, are navigating the growing pains of top-flight competition. The debutants endured a harsh welcome, falling 3-0 to Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) in Mbale. But back on home turf, head coach Derrick Kasumba is confident his team will rise to the challenge and show their potential against seasoned opponents.

UCU, who failed to advance from the group stage last season, are counting on the leadership of Peter Kyomuhendo and Harry Abiti to steady the ship and inspire a turnaround.

With both sides yet to register a point in Group E, which also features Ndejje, Makerere, Kumi, and IUIU, today’s clash promises a battle of hunger and redemption.

One seeks to reassert dominance. The other, to make history. At Nsambya, both stories intersect and only one will leave with relief.
