The Uganda Cubs has emerged winners of the CECAFA Zone U17 AFCON Qualifiers after defeating Tanzania (2-1) in a final at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo today, Friday December 27th, 2024.
Coach Brian Ssenyondo’s team came from a goal down to defeat Tanzania in an entertaining AFCON Zonal qualifiers’ finals.
“My target is now to take the team to World Cup. The AFCON is done and am grateful that have made the team qualify,” Ssenyondo said.
Two second-half goals from Arafat Nkola and James Bogere were enough to see off Tanzania who scored first through Abel Josiah Samson in the first half.

The CECAFA first Vice President Augustino Madout Parek, Second Vice President Alexandre Muyengye and Exco Member Doris Petra, together with the FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo and the Ugandan State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang attended the Awards ceremony.

Both Uganda and Tanzania have qualified to represent the CECAFA Zone at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 that will take place in Morocco.
