Hajji Omar Mayanja has won the boxing day championship sprint that took place today at Extreme Adventure Park, Busiika along Ziroobwe Road.
The seasonal rally driver has rarely been competing this year. He had last driven in the Umar Dauda Fundraising sprint that took place in Garuga in late July.

To win the boxing day championship sprint, Mayanja posted a total time of 00:03:44.20 minutes and with just 02.42 seconds he was followed by Michael Mukula Jr in the second place. Another seasonal driver, John Consta finished third on 00:03:49.00 as Umar Dauda on 00:03:51.60 and Ronald Ssebuguzi on 00:03:52.30 finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Mayanja’s win confirmed him as the 2024 sprint champion with 17 points followed by Ssebuguzi (15) and Godfrey Kiyimba sealing the podium on 13 points. Peter Kalule finished on 12 points in fourth position on the championship.

The Busiika Boxing Day Sprint Championship also entertained two wheel drive cars (2WD) as well as Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) category cars.
In the 2WD, Mansoor Lubega posted a total time of 00:04:23.63 minutes to lead the category as Julius ‘Mukalo’ Ssemambo posted a 00:04:25.20 minutes time to finish second. Sabiiti Muyanja sealed the 2WD podium with a total time of 00:04:29.50.

A younger star, Kevin Bebeto, a son to the rally driver, Kuku Ranjit led the CRC group with 00:04:12.47 minutes posted as Haruna Kataza (00:04:32.87) and Ahmed Kateete, a son to another rally driver, Abdul Kateete posted 00:04:36.08 to finish second and third respectively.

This event has sealed the 2024 FMU competition calendar and drivers are now focusing on the new season slated to start late next month with the Mbarara region rally.
