The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) bank accounts have been frozen for the second time this year. This has made federation work hard as they have nothing to help in the day today business run.

Current FMU leaders from left; Joshua Mayanja (DVP Motor Rallying), Gombe (Vice President), Jimmy Akena (President), Raynolds Kibira (General Secretary), Jackson Sserwanga (Ass. GS) and Arthur Blick Jnr (DVP Motorcross).

The news was released by FMU Vice President, Hajji Hamid Gombe as he was flagging off the MX Cranes that travelled to Mombasa, Kenya for the Central Africa Motorcross Championship (CAC) second round.

According to Gombe, it was a shock to them when the federation signatories went to withdraw some money only to find the account frozen.

“Government hasn’t been funding well the federation. We have been saving our own money to help us run the sport but now we can’t even access any,” Said Gombe.

In May this year, Jimmy James Akena Obote was elected President of the Federation for the next four years replacing Dipu Ruparelia. He was voted alongside Hajji Hamid Gombe as his Vice President, Reynolds Kibira (General Secretary), Joshua Mayanja (Deputy Vice President in charge of motor rallying), Arthur Blick Jr (Deputy Vice President in charge of motorcycling) and Angella Semukuttu for Deputy Vice President Vintage and Touring.

City Advocate Geoffrey Nsamba emphasising the point of respecting the constitution during the FMU assembly at Kabira Country Club.

The management started work amidst governance challenges with a pending legal issue and investigation in federation accountability by the office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG).

The issues were taken to courts of law and IGG by former rally driver, Geoffrey Nsamba who was accusing over what he called funds mismanagement by the then executive. He also accused them of interfering with the constitution with the aim of blocking him from standing for presidency.

Gombe says this all due to the Inspector General of Government who wrote to the Parliament recently declaring the entire Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) current management illegal in office.

In the same document, the IGG called for fresh elections to be organized within one month and instructed National Council of Sports (NCS) to stop funding the federation.
