The Uganda Premier League (UPL) has announced a shift in night fixture kick-off times for the 2025/26 season, with matches now set to start at 8:00PM instead of the previous 7:00PM. The change is aimed at enhancing television coverage and ensuring smoother matchday operations.

UPL CEO Bernard Bainamani emphasized that the move is designed to create a consistent schedule for fans watching from home while giving broadcasters predictable timing for live coverage.
The announcement has sparked lively debate among fans online. Some supporters welcomed the later start, noting it makes commuting to stadiums easier, especially during peak traffic hours. Others voiced concerns over security and late-night travel, warning that ending matches later could pose risks for spectators.

In addition to the revised kick-off times, the UPL plans to introduce double-header fixtures, depending on club approval, venue readiness, and broadcast demand. The first scheduled double-header will take place at Namboole on Matchday Two, Saturday, October 4, when Vipers SC face Kitara FC before KCCA FC take on SC Villa.

Fixtures involving Vipers SC and NEC FC remain flexible, as both clubs are engaged in CAF competitions, and their opening weekend matches have been postponed.

Bainamani also highlighted that this season will see a significant increase in televised games, with 167 of the 268 fixtures scheduled for broadcast—up from 134 last season—underscoring the league’s growing focus on fan engagement and media reach.

With later kick-offs and more live coverage, the UPL is positioning itself to attract wider audiences and ensure fans across Uganda can enjoy top-flight football in a more structured, accessible way
