It was a day of mixed fortunes for Ugandan stars in the Ethiopian Premier League as the new year approaches. From match-winning shifts to the sting of defeat, the Ugandans were at the heart of some of the league’s most competitive Matchday 12 fixtures.

CBE FC Triumphs as Simon Peter Okech Outshines Kayiwa
In the standout Ugandan derby of the day, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ethiopia Insurance (Ethiopian Medhin).

Simon Peter Okech (CBE FC): The Ugandan winger was named in the starting lineup and delivered a masterclass performance. His energy and tactical awareness were pivotal in ensuring CBE FC walked away with maximum points, further solidifying their position in the top half of the table.

Allan Thierry Kayiwa (Ethiopia Insurance): On the opposing side, Kayiwa also earned a starting spot for the Insurance men. While he worked tirelessly to ignite his side’s attack, his efforts were not enough to overcome the disciplined CBE defense.

Mechal SC Slips as Ethiopia Bunna Wins Without Alionzi
In a surprising turn, Mechal SC fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ethiopia Bunna.

The “Browns” of Ethiopia Bunna were without their regular first-choice goalkeeper, Ugandan Cranes’ Nafian Legason Alionzi, who is currently away on international duty with the Uganda Cranes at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

While his absence could have left a void, Ethiopia Bunna’s defense managed to shut out Mechal SC to snatch a vital away win.

Emmanuel Kalyowa Keeps a Clean Sheet in Sidama Bunna Victory
Tuesday saw another Ugandan success story as goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa guarded the posts for league leaders Sidama Bunna.

Kalyowa was instrumental in maintaining a clean sheet as Sidama Bunna defeated Sheger Ketema (Shagger City) 2-0. The win ensures Sidama Bunna remains at the summit of the league standings with 25 points after 12 matches.
