The She Gladiators, Uganda’s National Kabaddi Women’s Team flagged off for the Africa Kabaddi Championships, which will be held from April 7th to 8th, 2025, in Kasarani, Kenya.

The defending champions Uganda consists of 14 players, is mainly dominated by Kyadondo Secondary School, Matugga-Kiryangonja and St Barnabus College.

The team, under coach Efrain Desire Makubuya will be competing with hosts Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania among others at Kasarani stadium in Kenya.

Flagging off the team at the National Council of sports in Lugogo, Assistant NCS general secretary Sarah Chelangat expressed confidence in the She Gladiators team.

“When I look in your eyes, I see talent, hunger, and a zeal to win. Go and perform to the best of your ability because I know that all of you here have the ability to return with the trophy,” Chelangat said.

Head coach Efrain Desire Makubuya, who guided Uganda to triumph in the championship in 2023, has shown enough confidence in defending the trophy.

This time round we are more than any challenge because we have had a better preparation, last time many players were denied to play in the championship by schools but this time we have had all the players for over a month in preparations, we are going there to win it back and we are bringing it.”

In 2023, Uganda won the trophy, beating Zanzibar by 34-18 points in the final after overcoming South Sudan, Tanzania, Burundi, and Kenya.

The tournament is aimed at helping Uganda to play a key role in preparation for the World Cup, which will be held in Bihar, India in June.
