KCCA Leopards bounced back in style with a hard-fought 71-63 win over the KIU Rangers in a thrilling National Basketball League (NBL) encounter on Friday night at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Coming off a tough loss to the Miracle Ravens, the Leopards showed resilience and composure, especially in the final quarter, to return to winning ways.
The game was evenly matched from the start. KCCA edged the opening quarter 17-16 and clung to a slim one-point lead at halftime in a fiercely contested first half.
The momentum shifted in the third period as the Rangers surged ahead, capped by Stella Nafunka’s buzzer-beating jumper that handed them a 52-50 advantage heading into the fourth.
However, the Leopards saved their best for last. With 41 seconds remaining and the crowd on its feet, Sharua Nakirya delivered a clutch three pointer that stretched KCCA’s lead to eight, effectively sealing the win.
Peruth Nyamwenge, Margaret Baagala, and Susan Rebecca Aanyu were instrumental for KCCA, each contributing 13 points. On the other side, Sharon Kirabo and Ines Kanyamunyeza led the Rangers with 15 points apiece, while Nafunka chipped in with 10.
The result lifts KCCA Leopards’ spirits and reinforces their status as one of the league’s top contenders as the season heats up.
