URA FC have launched an urgent hunt for a new head coach, with Hussein Mbalangu, Sam Ssimbwa and Abdullah Mubiru among the early names linked to the vacancy. The Tax Collectors had also expressed interest former Bright Stars boss Paul Kiwanuka was considered but ruled out because he does not hold the mandatory CAF A Licence required to manage in the Uganda Premier League.

The shake-up follows the club’s decision to part ways with Alex Isabirye after a troubled spell marked by fluctuating performances, capped by last week’s 2-1 defeat to KCCA FC that is understood to have accelerated the parting of ways. Isabirye, who arrived in 2023 after leading Vipers SC to a historic domestic double, leaves URA together with his entire backroom staff — assistant coach Baker Kasule, goalkeeping coach Jamil Damba and trainer Patrick Asiku.

In the meantime, long-serving assistant Edward Golola has been asked to steady the ship on an interim basis as URA’s hierarchy begins the search for a permanent successor to rebuild momentum for the second half of the season.
