Uganda’s women’s national cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, secured a thrilling 20-run victory over Tanzania at the Gahanga Main Oval, extending their winning streak to six matches at the 11th Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament.

Uganda’s Batting Efforts

After being sent in to bat, Uganda posted a modest total of 99/6 in 20 overs. The openers got off to a promising start, reaching 37 without loss at the end of the powerplay. However, Tanzania’s bowlers, Justine Pius Neema and Ushanga Hamsi Mwananvua, struck back, taking two wickets apiece. Uganda’s middle order struggled to maintain momentum, but captain Mbabazi Janet’s measured 34 off 32 balls helped the team reach a competitive total.

Mbabazi’s All-Round Excellence

Mbabazi Janet was the star of the day, delivering a devastating spell of bowling, taking 2 wickets for just 17 runs in 4 overs. Her all-round excellence earned her a third Player of the Match accolade.

Tanzania’s Collapse

In response, Tanzania made a strong start, reaching 27 without loss after six overs. However, Uganda’s bowlers turned the match around, with Phiona Kulume removing Neema and Mbabazi clean-bowling Tanzanian captain Fatma Kibasu. Consy Aweko and Stephanie Nampiina also made crucial contributions, dismissing Tanzania for 79 in 18 overs.
