Today, 8pm, Kadiba
SC Villa v Mbarara City

SC Villa return to familiar surroundings this afternoon with a chance to steady their Uganda Premier League campaign when they entertain Mbarara City at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

The Jogoos are keen to respond after a disappointing trip to Njeru, where costly mistakes at the back handed BUL a 2-1 victory and slowed Villa’s push at the summit. That setback nudged them down to fifth on the standings, leaving them chasing leaders Vipers, who hold a slim but growing advantage at the top.

Back in Mengo, however, Villa will lean on a venue that has become a fortress this season. They are yet to taste defeat at Kadiba, collecting five wins and a draw from six home matches, a record that underlines why today’s fixture presents an ideal platform to bounce back.

Mbarara City arrive in the capital under heavy clouds. Their season has been rocked by logistical and financial turmoil, issues that have spilled onto the pitch. Last weekend’s goalless stalemate with Lugazi was played under extraordinary circumstances, with the Ankole Lions naming only a starting XI and no substitutes, and an outfield player pressed into goalkeeping duty.

The situation worsened off the field soon after, as the club suspended several senior players following a reported protest over unpaid salaries. With just 11 points from 13 games, Mbarara sit near the foot of the table and are already locked in a fierce relegation scrap.

Villa will look to exploit those struggles, with attacking options such as Reagan Mpande, Frank Ssebufu, Patrick Kakande and Hassan Mubiru expected to drive the response. Mpande, on the scoresheet in the loss to BUL, will be particularly eager to convert momentum into goals this time around.

Recent history also favours the hosts. Villa dominated this fixture last season, completing a league double over Mbarara, and will be aiming to repeat that dominance as they seek to reinsert themselves into the title conversation.

Elsewhere in the league, Kitara host Express at Royal Park Stadium in Butema. The Hoima-based side are fresh from an entertaining draw away to NEC, while Express make the trip riding high after a convincing home win over Buhimba United Saints.
