Experienced forward Viola Nambi has been named the Crested Cranes captain for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 Qualifies against Ethiopia tomorrow at Hamz stadium.
The developments were revealed today, Thursday at FUFA Complex by head coach Sheryl Botes.
After tomorrow’s game, the return leg will take place in Addis Ababa on 26th February with the aggregate winner advancing to the next qualification round.

The former St Mary’s Kitende player who is a proven goal-scorer plays her trade with Aland United Women FC in Finland. She will be assisted by Fazila Ikwaput and goalkeeper Ruth Aturo as the second deputy captain.
Ikwaput, plays for Gokulam Kerala WFC in India as Aturo is currently with Tanzanian outfit Tausi WFC.
Nambi, 28, scored a brace on her Crested Cranes debut as Uganda thumped Zambia 5-0 in a friendly game played in Marrakech, Morocco. She was part of the squad that represented Uganda at the 2022 Women’s AFCON in Morocco in 2022.

“I have been with the team for the last three days, and I can confidently say we are in a good mental and physical state. We have committed ourselves to staying strong and overcoming any challenges that arise,” Nambi says.
“As players, we have held meetings to boost morale, and I have spoken individually with teammates to inspire them. There’s no pressure. It is an honor to captain this team. I believe in the squad and the selected players, I am ready to lead by example.”
