Vipers SC have reinforced their backline with the return of right-back Ashraf Mandela, who has signed a three-year deal ahead of the new season.
The move is seen as part of the Venoms’ broader push to reclaim their dominance both domestically and on the continent. Mandela, who recently featured for Rwanda Police FC in the Rwandan Premier League, brings a wealth of experience and proven pedigree at the highest level of Ugandan football.

No stranger to Kitende, this will be Mandela’s third spell at St. Mary’s Stadium. His second stint between 2022 and 2024 was particularly successful—he played a pivotal role in delivering two Uganda Premier League titles, a Uganda Cup crown, and a memorable run to the CAF Champions League group stages.
Now 21, Mandela returns more seasoned than ever. His versatility and maturity are expected to give head coach Ivan Minneart added options in defence, where he will battle for minutes alongside Grant Matsiko and veteran Nicholas Wakiro Wadada.
The right-back joins a growing list of new arrivals at Vipers, including Robin Kane Hney, Mark Yallah, Taddeo Lwanga, Odili Chukwuma, Kevin Dasylva Bady, and Enock Ssebaggala—signalling a strong intent from the club hierarchy.

Speaking after sealing the deal, Mandela described the move as a fresh challenge with familiar roots. “It feels great to be back home. Vipers has always been special to me, and I am ready to fight for the badge and the fans once again,” he said.
As Vipers prepare for a season targeting silverware on all fronts, Mandela’s return adds not only depth but also a statement of ambition—the Venoms are building a squad designed to compete at every level.
