The tension is palpable as Uganda’s football fans eagerly awaits the Uganda Premier League matchday twenty four continue action today with a top-of-the-table clash between Six times champions, Vipers Sports Club and title contenders NEC FC. The two teams are separated by 2 points going into this match.
Vipers SC dropped points as matchday 23 closed with two all draw with the Red Eagles while Hussein Mbalangu’s NEC made huge statement with hard fought 2-1 victory against onform Kitara FC.
NEC FC will be hoping to end Venoms’ 11 home league matches unbeaten this season having won eight and draw three while NEC have won just 4 away matches this season.
In the reverse fixture NEC FC humiliated Vipers 3-1 on the Uganda Premier League match day one under the floodlights at Lugogo Stadium.
Muzamir Mutyaba, former Vipers’ players Paul Mucureezi and Cromwell Rwothomio were on target for the hosts while Livingston Mulondo scored for the Venoms.
NEC FC will miss out the experienced midfielder Enock Ssebagala missing through suspension but the rest of the squad is ready for the encounter.
Hussein Mbalangu speaking ahead of NEC FC’s visit to Vipers SC said, “The good thing is, even the boys understand what the game means… And I know we’re going to beat them at their stadium.”
On Another side the six-time champions, Vipers, lead the table standings on 53 points, two more than NEC with seven league games to go squeaky bum time.
Fred Muhumuzza is confident in his lads given the experience of featuring in such games and says the game is no different from any other despite the hype.
“The game has been hyped but it’s a game like any other Uganda Premier League game,” said Muhumuzza.
“We know a lot has been said, but the game of football is a practical one. Our players have the experienced to handle such games,” he added.
