Vipers SC will officially be declared champions today of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League as they host Bright Stars at Kitende on the final day of the season.
The Venoms clinched their seventh league title on Matchday 29 with a convincing 2-0 win over Kitara, thanks to goals from Yunus Sentamu and Gusto Mulongo.
Guided by coaches John Ayala Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, Vipers have had an impressive campaign. After a rocky start under former coach Nikola Kavazovic, which included a defeat to NEC, the team found stability and form following Ayala’s appointment.
Key contributors to their success have been Allan Okello and Abdul Karim Watambala. Okello tops the league’s scoring charts with 18 goals, while Watambala has played a vital role in controlling the midfield.
Vipers are expected to end the season on a high note against Bright Stars, who have already been relegated. The Kawempe based side’s demotion brings an end to their more than ten-year stay in the top division. Heading into the final matchday with just 19 points, Bright Stars are set to compete in the FUFA Big League next season.
