The opening round of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club set the stage for an intriguing duel between rising talents and seasoned campaigners, with Zambia’s Madalitso Musonda and Uganda’s Joseph Cwinyaai leading the charge.

Musonda, just 22, fired an impressive six-under 65 decorated with eight birdies to claim the early lead, while Cwinyaai stayed firmly in the hunt with a composed 67. Their contrasting styles—Musonda’s fearless attacking play against Cwinyaai’s measured consistency—hint at a gripping battle over the next three rounds.

Cwinyaai, meanwhile, produced a near blemish-free round, marred only by a bogey on the par-3 17th.

With more than six players separated by just seven strokes after day one, the Open already promises a compelling storyline: will the youthful Musonda ride his momentum to glory on unfamiliar soil, or will the homegrown experience of Cwinyaai and company swing the championship back Uganda’s way?
