17 times Uganda Premier league champions, SC Villa are once again left with no home ground as the upgrading work on Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku begins.

Wankulukuku has been Villa’s home ground for this season. At the beginning of the 2024/25 season, Villa contested for Hamz Nakivubo Stadium but due to late request submission, the found the ground occupied by Express and URA and thus taking Wankulukuku.

Uganda alongside Kenya and Tanzania, will be hosting the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) that kicks off on February 1st and Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku is one of the stadia to be used as training grounds.

Wankulukuku renovation, will be focusing mainly on constructing international standard dressing rooms, the VIP wing and floodlights will be installed according to sources.  

The renovation work is under UPDF Engineering brigade which is lead by Lieutenant Colonel Peter Kidemuka. The brigade did the renovation work on Mandela National stadium, and is also working on Kyambogo.

Only four training grounds; Namboole (outside pitch), Kadiba, Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) and Wankulukuku will be available for CHAN.

The Uganda Premier League resumes on Saturday as Mbarara City will be hosting Wakiso Giants. Villa is supposed to be back in action on January 4th hosting URA.
