Kenya’s Samman Vohra has made hopes of winning his debut Pearl of Africa rally clear by winning the event’s day one.

Samman in a Skoda Fabia Rally2, posted a total time of 00:34:43.42 minutes to beat off competition from fellow Kenyan Karan Patel who posted 00:35:47.62 in the second.

Ugandans Yasin Nasser and Duncan Mubiru finished third and fourth respectively as George Michael Mukulu sealed the top 5.

“It was about getting a good rhythm from the start. We found our pace at the start and we just kept a steady drive, clean and cautious. It has been a decent day overall,” said Vohra.

The 2024 KNRC champion said he won’t be changing strategies come tomorrow in day two. “We are not changing any strategy. We are driving the same. We have a small lead that allows us a small caution and not take any risks. So we shall just be calculative and get the car to the end.”

The crews will tomorrow head for a final event day which will consist of 8 stages and a total competitive distance of 135.22km.
